FAQ

This FAQ page provides answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about North Star Therapy and the services we offer. If you don't find an answer to your question, feel free to contact us.

  • What is music therapy?
Music therapy is a health care service where you receive support from a certified music therapist who uses music as part of your therapy. We address your mental health concerns using music based activities in addition to talking. For example, we frequently listen to music, discuss lyrics, incorporate songwriting, singing and playing instruments. The services we provide include music therapy for anxiety, music therapy for depression, and music therapy for trauma.
  • Do you take insurance?
We do not accept insurance, but we are happy to provide super bills to submit to your out of network insurance. Music therapy is rarely covered by health insurance policies. Reduced fees may be available on a case by case basis.
  • Does North Star Therapy provide counseling services?
North Star Therapy does not currently provide licensed professional counseling. Our music therapists are highly specialized in addressing mental health in a music therapy setting, and may be sufficient to address your mental health concerns. However, if we assess that your needs exceed our scope of practice, we will refer you to a counselor or other provider in our area.
  • I love the idea of music therapy, but cost is an issue. What options do you have?"
If the cost of therapy is a concern, call us to ask about reduced fee options. You may also look into YES Waiver services for your child, which provides wraparound mental health care services (including music therapy) at no cost to your family. You can learn more about YES Waiver and find a list of county based YES Waiver inquiry hotlines at https://hhs.texas.gov/services/mental-health-substance-use/childrens-mental-health/yes-waiver.
  • Who do you work with?
Our specialized music therapists work with kids, teens, and adults that have a mental health concern. Our clients most often are struggling with depression, anxiety and/or trauma.
  • When are you available to schedule?
Our team of music therapists are typically available to schedule appointments on Tuesdays through Fridays between 11:00am and 6:00pm. Late or early appointments may be available on a limited basis. After-school appointments are limited, so please let us know if you have specific schedule needs, and we will do our best to accommodate.
