Music Therapist

WHY I'M A MUSIC THERAPIST:
I grew up seeing a bunch of ways that music could bring people together. From singing songs in church as a kid, dancing along with some of my parents' favorite classic rock songs, and finally learning to play an instrument myself, I saw how music can tell a story and shape how we feel. When I learned about music therapy in high school, it immediately felt like a perfect fit. Getting to use music as the bridge between my clients and me still feels like the coolest thing in the world.

WHAT I'M REALLY GOOD AT:
Listening, playing guitar, finding the bright side in stressful situations, crossword puzzles, and helping people find their voice.

MUSIC I LIKE:
My taste in music is a weird mash-up that came from the influence of my family, years of listening to classical music, and hours spent going down "related artist" rabbit holes on Spotify. Some of my favorite artists are The Staves, Florence + the Machine, Rukhsana Merrise, Kishi Bashi, and Tune-Yards.

ME, AS A PERSON:
When I'm feeling especially motivated, you can find me writing songs, studying a new language, baking things to satisfy my sweet tooth, or out with my camera taking pictures of people and places that I love. Otherwise, I'm usually watching movies, clicking through Wikipedia articles on everything from philosophy to the history of toast, or discovering a new story-driven video game.

EDUCATION STUFF:

I received two Bachelors of Music from SMU -- Music Therapy and Viola Performance. I interned at the Austin State Hospital in Austin, Texas.
